Well, I'll post a thread about some kind of music since there is none yet. And somehow I couldn't choose between a metal subgenre or a punk subgenre. Haha, pathetic. So I'll merge it. Rebel music is rebel music.

 

Well, I listen to a lot of extreme metal, hardcore punk, indiemo and so-called skramz. Comment with what you listen to at the moment.

I am a bigtime metal head, in addition to a lot of instrumental guitar work and progressive stuff. Tons of different bands are on my playlist right now, including Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Sezaam, Animals as Leaders, Joe Satriani, etc.

I don't know who you're referring to, since I listed 6 different groups and none of them sound the same. O_o

If you go into the subgenres of metal and punk, you can find plenty of things that aren't "loud". Metal and punk are far too broad to really just cover by themselves, you essentially have to go into subgenres or else you're being too vague.

 

Personally, I'm more of a fan of post-hardcore, gothic metal and power metal, as subgenres, but I like a lot of the heavier stuff and some skramz.

 

Favourite bands that fit the genre, for me, include Silverstein, Parkway Drive, All That Remains, Epica, Ice Nine Kills, Kamelot, Draconian, Altaria and The Devil Wears Prada.

 

So yeah, to expand on the earlier point, there's enough variety that someone will like something in the genre. If not, they're probably deaf.

I was refering to the genre's music in general, not those specific bands.

If someone says that after someone mentions Meshuggah, I agree. First time I heard them, I thought "I'll like this band when I'm older, but it sounds like shit right now", haha. If you want something less loud, you should start listening to indie-inspired emo music. Pretty soft and awesome.

I like Kamelot too. Pretty cool band. And yeah, if you compare Sex Pistols with Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonley Estate), Gojira, Happy End and Wow, Owls! you're gonna notice that it's not just a bunch of dudes playing scales with power chords and screams.
