Hi! I've been making Magic cards using Magic Set Editor for some time, mostly only for fun. When I found this site, I figured that it was the perfect opprotunity to put them on display, for all to see and critique! Just to note beforehand, yes, a lot of these cards are very powerful, mostly because I don't see the point in making a card that's just 'meh'. Whether they're overpowered is for you to decide!
Without further ado:
Creatures
Saw the image, saw the colors. The gears in my head began turning, and this popped out. Absurd casting cost keeps its absurd ability from having too much traction, but then again, when has that stopped anyone?
I couldn't figure out what colors I should give this. I let my friend look at it, and there you have it, although it's obvious he only chose those by the art. ANYWAYS, this one went through several revisions before it was made. The original version just had Rebound and Phasing slapped onto it. Weird, right?
Ahahahaha, oh man, this one was fun. I know there wasn't enough room for flavor text, but I couldn't help myself. This guy right here is part of a three card "mini-set" of sorts, based around land destruction and unpreventable damage. This guy's pretty damn good, in my opinion, and I love how he turned out.
Made this guy because of the art (I mean come on, it's obvioulsy a Phyrexian). Honestly rather lackluster. I suppose they can't all be snowflakes.
Made this guy because I had his art stuck in my archives, and thought he looked cool. Honestly not too inspired, but at least he looks cool! (don't leave they'll get more exciting soon probably)
This guy is really mean. I didn't fully realize the utility of this card until it was already made and I kept it tucked away for a while. But yeah, this thing gets cruel quick. Combos pretty well with that one planeswalker down there (you'll know the one).
This was, I believe, the second card I ever made, and it shows. This was pretty much slapping on a bunch of keywords and adding some lackluster flavor text. I'm not really proud of it.
Yeah, this guy's only really a couple of keywords, but what great keywords they are. I like how it turned out flavorwise, too.
BECAUSE FLYING GETS ANNOYING SOMETIMES OKAY.
Because Thrulls need more love. Now, prepare to dump your mana into him and raise him to obscene power levels. I wish I could have conveyed the "puppet" part better. See the art? See the guy inside the thrull? Yeah, I wanted to convey that the Thrull actually ate its creator, but that was his creator's plan all along, and then this. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a good way to convey this in flavor text, so I leave it as an exersice to you fine people.
This is one of my first cards, and it's nothing really more than a bunch of keywords I didn't fully grasp slapped onto it. Nothing really special or interesting, sorry 'bout that folks.
See that little speck that's on the water? Yeah, that's a boat.
And yes, the flavor text is a reference to exactly what you think it is.
Its colors were inspired by the art, and I think it came out well. I know that there are plenty of creatures that have their power and toughness based on how many lands are in play, but how many cards decide it on how many lands are in the graveyard?
This guy was made to be a mirror to Nightveil Specter, due to the similarities in art. It's a bit clunky, but hey, instant-speed and free scavenging!
I like how this one turned out effect-wise, but it doesn't really have any flavor to speak of. Oh well, I'll get it right next time!
Yes, it's a green flier. Yes, I know it's mean with populate. No, I don't regret it.
LEGENDARY GOAT ROGUE. Indeed, made this one around the art, and I think I pretty much hit the nail on the head. If this was made into a real Magic card, I can see nothing but this art being used. I also love how the flavor turns out, although it obviously doesn't stretch very far.
I had a really difficult time deciding on whether or not this should give R or RR. I eventually chose the latter, because overpowered is more interesting than underpowered.
This guy's art sat in my archives for a while, me being unsure what to do with it. Then inspiration struck, and this now exists. I believe that it certainly deserves its mythic status.
Yes, I know it's horrendously out of color. I'm very sorry, but I couldn't think of anything else to do with this art.
SNOOOOOOOOOW! Yeah, I like how this one turned out, both effect and flavorwise. Rather well balanced, in my humble opinion.
You know, just in case you're ever facing the dreaded Goatnapper.
CENTAGOOOOOOAT! Yes, I'm trying to make Goat tribal a viable deck, why do you ask? In any case, this guy's a beast, especially if you can find a way to get the counters off of him. Curiously, Doubling Season both works for and against you regarding this card.
Yeah, not too much to say about this one, really. It was an attempt to capture the whole "three heads" think flavorwise, but triple-strike isn't a thing. And, well, if it was, it'd be on an Un card. Underworld Cerberus does a much better job on this concept.
This is one of my first ones. It's kind of wonky, but not really that bad. Should probably reduce that power a little bit, because its ability is already pretty abusable. Oh, and I should either make it only target nonland permanants, or make it put them into pla- You know, what, I think I'll probably make it only target nonland permanants. Making a ton of land tokens might be a bit much.
Ah, simplicity and elegance. He's no Invisible Stalker, but he'll get the job done.
Desmar. Go ahead, say it out loud. Desmar. Really rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Yeah, he picks up lands and throws them at peeps. I bet Ruler of Cataclysm and this guy hang out on Sundays, finding landscapes to admire, and then demolish. Oh, and they'd bring along Incarnation of Gaia, too, but you'll see him later.
Ahahahaha, this guy. I saw the art, and I immediately knew I had to make something horrible to fight against. And so I did. I love how horrible this thing is, but I'm kind of dissapointed how this card is closer to blue in flavor, rather than black, which it boasts heavily in its mana cost. Oh well.
Completely and utterly unremarkable, really. Sorry!
Inventing a new keyword, what could possibly go wrong? Not as much as you think it would, really. It's pretty powerful effect-wise, but with a pretty crappy body for the casting cost. Overall, I find it decently balanced.
Staaaaaaaaaag. Yes. Yes he is. Boring, sure, but at least this card is exactly where I want it to be, unlike some cards down in that other spoiler.
omnomnomnomnomnomnomnomn
Aw, look, he's made a friend-wait what are you doing with that Prey Upon oh my god
You monster.
A better Gravestorm with a body that costs one more B. Not too shabby. This fact is referenced by who's stating the flavor text, although I kind of bunked it up, since he's not actually raising dead, since it's being sent back to the library.
Wait, now that I think about it, that's a flavor issue with Gravepurge, too. Or is it? Maybe not. Hmmm....
This guy is halfly request from a friend, and halfy me wanting to make a card for said friend. In any case, this is the result, and I find him interesting. Certainly hoses any opposing lifegain deck, that's for sure.
This is just like a green Mountaineer Packbeast...except I made this one earlier, so I had no problem with making it produce two mana in a pretty broken fashion. Yay, ignorance!
Just toss it into your Dark Depths deck or something. It's not like it needs to tap or any-
...oh. Right. Sacrificing. Yeeeeah. Have fun!
Here he is, that other guy that can pick up lands and throw them at things! Yay!
Oddly enough, combos with Vengeance of Gaia, even though they're flavorwise supposed to be bitter enemies. Shooting yourself in the foot much, Gaia?
I saw the art. I saw the colors. And I knew what I had to do. This is the result. I have no regrets, besides not coming up with better flavortext.
Okay, this one's kind of an inside joke for myself. Whenever I make a card with some sort of generator or whatever, I always make sure to make one of this guy, my buddy Kazangan. Because come on, his name is really cool. Also, his Elemental tokens could set up Incarnation of Gaia's affinity. Just sayin'.
Named based on the Slavic folkelore character guy of the same name, although I think this guy is much cooler, personally. It's a Humble on a stick, which you can then steal if you have the mana. And even when they revert back, they're still yours. Really nifty. Oh, and his first ability's cool, too.
I could have given him indestructable, but then I'd have to figure out a way to flavorfully implement his soul being inside a needle, which is inside an egg, which is inside a duck, which is inside a hare, which is inside a chest, buried under a tree, on an island, in the middle of an ocean. Yeah, it's that kind of story.
This one was mostly just me accidentally creating a triple mana symbol, and then rolling with it. Personally, I really like how it came out. Very versatile.
Simplicity again at its finest. I personally think that the second mana is worth the extra point of toughness and being colorless, but to each their own. Coming to a Sol Ring near you.
This is one of those "oh my god the art is awesome card making mode activate" kind of cards. I believe that this one turned out great.
My attempt at making a more interesting version of firebreathing. Not really that effective, but oh well, that's why it's a common.
Behold, the very first card I ever made. Yeah, it's a bunch of keywords slapped on, with terribly unfitting flavor text (haha, goblins. hahahahaha), but I don't know, I can't bring myself to truly hate it. Perhaps it's the nostalgia or something.
Booooooooooring. Some trivia, though: Gentle Golem was originally going to be a double-sided card, and the artwork and name of this card would have been used for it. In hindsight, that would have been much better than this boring card. Oh well.
