Forgive the lack of pictures, it's tedius and these are just rough starting ideas for mechanics.

All three examples are super above curve though.

- Priest's Scarab should be 1/1 or 1/2. It's two bears for 1G.
- Devout Acolyte's pretty broke. Especially if it's a Common. Kitchen Finks is insanely good. This is a strict upgrade on it.
- Spiritmonger was pushed for a five-drop when it was released. In a realistic scenario, I'd place this at a 5BG mana cost, then boost it to 6/5.

The mechanic and flavour behind it is credible. There's one problem in which that it's not a mechanic that works well at Common. The reason why there are literally no common cards that put in variable tokens is that doing so messes with keeping track of effects and good game play. Populate is an exception because it populates predefined tokens (usually the ones provided in a set).

Devout Acolyte could easily fight for the award of most broken card in history of commons. Even Lightning Bolt isn't as good as this card. o.O

Young Wolf is a 1/1 for G that becomes a 2/2 when it dies. I don't see how a 2/2 for 1G that just comes back after dying is that much more broken. Maybe if I made it a 2/1...

I meant for Devout Acolyte to be 3G, not 2G. I'll agree that it's a bit broken in its current state. Oh, and it's an uncommon. Thought it was obvious due to the power level. I made a common, an uncommon, and a rare/mythic.

Spiritmonger is a really old card. Creatures are way better now then they were before. I'll consider making it 2BBG and a 5/3, but meh.

If someone can figure out a way for a creature to come back exactly once without it involving tokens or having memory problems, please let me know.

G for 1/1 is undercurve in the first place. That's why Young Wolf is fine. At the moment, the biggest nonconditional 1G creature is Brushstrider.

The other reasonable option to do the mechanic the same as it is without tokens/memory problems is essentially Undying/Persist V3. So:

(When this creature dies, if it had no bandage counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a bandage counter on it.)

Something in that vein.

A named counter is fine I guess. Just wish I could do without some silly named counter :T

lets give this perspective.

Centaur Courser  is a 3/3 for 2G

Leatherback Baloth is a 4/5 for GGG

Strangleroot Geist is an uncommon and a 2/1 Haste Undying

Centaur Healer is a 1WG as a 3/3 "gain 3 life when enters", and that feels broke to me.

Anubis could be a 9 drop and still not be balanced.

throw roaring primodox and Lightning greaves in the same deck and you have instant win capability.

also, just imagin Persist or Undying being added to these cards.

Cauldron of souls Anyone?

While I like the idea behind the mechanic, I can't help but feel it would have to be very overpriced to see print. Maybe not quite scavenge or cipher level overpriced, but close. As .Rai pointed out above, it's also a tad complex to parse as is at common. The whole "Whenever this nontoken creature dies" part is followed by producing a token, which may be confusing for newer players. Also, that token is a copy of the embalm creature, which gives it the mechanic, which will do nothing, so it's kind of a feel bad. "Oh, my new dude has embalm too?! But wait...it won't do anything. *confused face* Why does it have embalm again?"

All this aside, I do like the mechanic and it might be workable, but I think you'd be better off making simpler tokens without extra abilities so it's easier to keep track of the board state. I mean, it's not like you'll have token copies of each embalm creature sitting next to you when you're playing, so I could see this becoming a logistical nightmare.

I think Scarab is fine, it it's uncommon or rare: there is Strangleroot Geist that has haste, undying, costs {g}{g} and is 2/1.

Devout acolyte should cost more or be 1/3. Maybe 2/3 or 3/3 or have the 'gain 3 life' come with small kicker cost.

Didn't like at all that you used Anubis name for a zombie. Protector of the dead, grave guardian god. Sinister twisting of actual culture. Like bad Hollywood b-movie.
