Cards in MtG are not just played uncoordinated, they go onto the stack. The same goes for basically anythig but playing landcards.

Creature -> onto the stack

Sorcery -> onto the stack

activated ability -> onto the stack

etc etc

The point is, that once you played something, there's this priority-moment-thingy, which basically means, that your card/spell/action (however you want to call it) is in its moment of resolving, just hanging around in the air.

That's the moment (any actually professional please correct me here, if necessary) when you can either decide to stack more onto the stack OR let the priority switch to your opposing player (sooner or later this will happen, every time, inevitable, well except for "split second", but I digress). Then that player can in turn put whatever he wants onto the stack, until he decides to let priority switch again.

Once nobody puts more stuff onto the stack, it RESOLVES. From top to bottom, all the cards, abilities, and whatever is on the stack, do their jobs.

That's basically the keyelement to playing MtG and the only thing thats totally confusing.

Also there's some shit going on with sorceries, like... you can only play them in your turn or they can only start a stack, not enter it (which would automatically incorporate the first thing, I guess)?

Man, now I'm confused as hell...

Like, you've 5secs to shout PRIORITY and slam a card as reaction onto the board?

priority is held by the players whose turn it is. While that person has priority, no other player can cast a spell. if that player either activates a non- mana ability, or cast a spell, all other players can now react (Unless it says split second which denies anything from entering the stack.

Sorceries can only be cast during a players main phase- which comes before and after combat. If a spell is on the stack, sorceries cannot be cast, all spells must resolve first.

Land tapping and Mana abilities do not use the stack.

If a player declares he or she is entering a new phase, each other player also has a chance to react with abilities or spells.
