Alright, first of all, it's been at least a year since I last played and I'm coming over from the Yugioh side of the forums, so if the text reads like that of a Yugioh card, old habits struck and hard.

I'm working on a fanfiction of mine that takes place not long after the events of the Secretist trio and after events of a WarHammer 40k Skype RP a character of mine is in. This story happens to coincide quite a bit with the cards below. The Emperor of the 40k plane agrees to open the gate out of the reality and safely lead a trio of beings out of the realm, one boy, one girl and one man. However, instead of landing in safety, the two children and the man watching over them landed in Ravnica in the middle of guildless territory.

After being on the receiving end of the fastest response he's ever known to him jumping into another's mind, Jace Beleren, the Living Guildpact of the realm, cautiously invites the trio to the known embassy after awakening from the stunt before asking to be allowed into the man's mind to determine something. After the man, whose name was revealed as Neos Rivetter, studied Jace with his strange neon-green eyes and the girl of the trio told him that no harm will come from the act, he finally agreed and dropped his mental guards. The mind mage entered his consciousness into the stranger's, learning that the trio was from outside of Ravnica, though none of them were Planeswalkers, a fact that made him greatly-curious and made them the only ones he could share with the secret of him being a Planeswalker without risk of destroying their minds over it.

After a stunt where, in order to save Jace's life from an assassination attempt by Dimir agents, Neos had miraculously shapeshifted into a double of Jace and took the dagger's blow to the chest that pierced where the heart should be then pretended to be dead afterwards, Jace declared him to be his personal guardian, given authority to act in his place when it was truly-dangerous for himself to go. However, the power of the Guildpact only seems to function through him when Jace takes total control of Neos at range.

The story in progress can be seen here: Crossing Paths

ToSeeEternity_zpsa7cce498.png

Effect Text: You may only spend colorless mana on this spell while you control 1 or more Planeswalkers.
All Planeswalkers you control gain 5 Loyalty counters.
All creatures you control gain 5 +1/+1 counters.

Explanation: The Crossing Paths set, while it takes place mostly in Ravnica, is primarily about how events chain into one another to allow Planeswalkers the chance to do what hasn't been done before. After events that reveal to the world the existence of Planeswalkers, Niv-Mizzet finds himself actually thrilled with the concept of other worlds and winds up seeking the one known Planeswalker to aid him in his quest.

Afterimage_zps7d72223d.png

Effect Text: When this card is the target of a spell or ability, Sacrifice it.
If you control a Jace Planeswalker, you may summon this creature for 1U instead.

Explanation: One of the first in this set that has an altered effect when a specific Planeswalker is present. In any tale where Jace summons an illusion of some sort, there's always been a way to wreck belief in it by touching it, which is why this has the sacrifice effect. There has been several times when he's summoned illusionary doubles of himself to try to save his tailend in one way or another, which is why Jace players can use this more cheaply than others.

SurrrenderedThoughts_zps3fe888a2.png

Effect Text: Your opponent reveals his or her hand to you. You lose 1 Life for every Land card in their hand.
Explanation: This card was inspired by when Jace takes a dive into Neos' head after recovering from a very-sudden knock-out. The first effect is a typical blue effect, while the second line is to reflect the shock the mind mage felt when he saw realms not even he had seen before in the mind of a non-Planeswalker. If you were a Planeswalker and you saw that, wouldn't you be shocked, too?

UnchainedFury_zps3b9cd36c.png

Effect Text: Creatures with Defender gain Trample, Double Strike and may attack this turn. Green creatures gain +4/+0 until the end of turn.
Explanation: Whoo, someone is not happy... Above all else, this is to give Defender creatures a chance to finally jump forward and pound face for themselves. If they happen to be Green, said pounding will hurt even more. Kind of funny that the next card fits both bills...

NeosRivetter_zps42446415.png

Effect Text: Reach, Defender, Changeling
During each player’s Standby phase, increase the Loyalty counters of all Planeswalkers by one. If you control a Jace Planeswalker, attacks against that Planeswalker instead target this card. If a Neos Planeswalker exists on your side of the field, sacrifice this card.

Explanation: Neos is a Ditto, a genetic shapeshifter that has been pulled into one realm after another despite the lack of a Spark, always guided by other hands. He almost always finds himself in the role of defending important figures or saving the realm in question before finding a way to return to his home. Reach and the first line of his personal effect is due to the fact that he had learned how to manipulate energy he refers to as aura, though Jace sees it as an unusual form of magic. Neos can use to either help, heal, harm or even empower others around him. The second-to-last line of his personal effect is an add-on to Defender, taking his defensive task one step further by taking hits for any Planeswalker that happens to represent Jace on your side of the field, which represents his newfound occupation as the Guildpact's Shield. The times he's wound up taking on  Jace's appearance has confirmed the fact that he cannot copy Planeswalker Sparks through his shapeshifting, much to the Ditto's aggravation, however. The flavor text reveals an odd verbal tic he has, where he refers to others as 'dear', even those of the same percieved gender and not of romantic relations. As for that last line...you will soon see.

FayeXandros_zps78446d19.png

Effect Text: 1U: Look at the top card of your deck. You may choose to place the card on the bottom of your deck or show to your opponent the card and add it to your hand.
Explanation: Faye Xandros is one of the two children Neos brought with him from the Warhammer 40k universe, a 14-year-old psyker with the gift of foresight. Her card flags as red as well as blue because her visions often come through her dreams...which are often frightening nightmares. The part about choosing to show the added card to your opponent is linked to how she 'literally' shows Neos her dreams through a telepathic bond formed between the pair due to a nasty event predating the planned story. I think you can all see what would happen if Jace made the mistake of peeking into some of her dreams... The flavor text refers to when Jace peered into Neos' mind, when she just 'knew' the mind mage would not bring him harm, even though the source of her abilities, which is the Warp itself, isn't able to reach out to her. The image predates the idea of making this mini-set.

Fire-Madness_zpsc6ec5134.png

Effect Text: Pay 2 Life: Draw 1 card.
Discard 1 card: Gain 1 Life.

Explanation: Niv-Mizzet manages to get a bit of payback during the first time Jace had to use his mind-linking ability as the Guildpact by playing some serious dirty pool, the bindings being referenced here being the state of paralysis Jace enters during this kind of link. While Jace keeps the others focused on their tasks, Jace keeps Niv-Mizzet away from certain memories, preventing the dragon from seeing the memories of worlds outside of Ravnica by a small miracle.

KnowledgeataPrice_zps7d2d8123.png

Effect Text: Draw X cards. You lose X life.
Explanation: Simple effect, then question becomes how deeply do you wish to dive into the darkness of knowledge?

JaceCort_zps596e77a8.png

Effect Text: R: Deal 1 damage to target creature or Planeswalker. Place an Instability counter on this card.
During each of your Standby phases, if this card has 3 or more Instability counters, flip a coin. If tails, remove all Insanity counters from this card. You may not use this card’s effect this turn.

Explanation: This is the second of the two kids Neos brought with him to Ravnica, a 12-year-old boy psyker by the name of Jace Cort, and unlike either Beleren or Neos...or even Faye, he's nowhere near as experienced with his abilities, which seem to branch into a form of telekinesis. In regards to the Instability counters, the 40k Universe deals with the danger of some abilities blowing in your face when you mess up on using them. In this case, it knocks Jace onto his rearend for a turn. The flavor text actually pokes at the fact that not even Beleren is immune to Firemadness, which happens to anyone that's been connected to the mind of Niv-Mizzet the Firemind for too long. It is usually a condition that shows gradually over time, but considering his role as the Living Guildpact and the fact that he could have up to nine other minds going through his own at the same time as the dragon's...this requires the lowering of his own mental shields to perform, so he gets nailed by the condition, though it is temporary thankfully. Like with Faye's image, this card image predates the set.

NeostheForgedSpark_zps2dd701af.png

Effect Text: +1: Gain 1 U, 1 W, and 1 G mana.
-3: Other Planeswalkers you control gain 2 Loyalty counters.
-10: Search your deck for 5 permanents of your choice and place them on the field without paying their mana cost.

Explanation: Art looked better when I was working on it...anyhoo. All of a sudden the last line of Neos Rivetter's effect makes sense. While he is a Ditto, Neos is also known as an Aura Guardian, capable of manipulating life energy at a level different than green mana can. One of his aces is his ability to 'mix' Auras temporarily, which involves him pushing some of his own Aura into another while pulling the other being's Aura into himself. In the case of a Planeswalker, their Spark seems to act as a second Aura, which has found led to him finding a way to travel with Jace through the Blind Eternities into other worlds. After one trip, however, he found himself in a hellload of pain, which led to the discovery of an artificial Spark having been created in him by accident.

ToCrossPaths_zps69d2acd4.png

Effect Text: If you control at least one Planeswalker, select one. You may play as many creature cards from your hand whose total converted mana cost are equal to or lower than the converted mana cost of the selected card.
Explanation: Well, when reading about how the various Planeswalkers had their own ways of summoning new beings into life, even Jace with his many illusions, I thought about how to bring that effect into life. While the cost reflects best how Jace and Neos crossed paths with each other, I thought the converted mana cost would be the best way to determine how much was actually summoned at once by this card. Either the 'planeswalker' summoned many little creatures or one big one. The flavor text shows Neos' primary way of saying "Wtf?", which gets interesting when he asks Jace, of all people, what he's thinking with other than his brain.

UnityofThought_zps767c9acf.png

Effect Text: If only colorless mana is used to cast this spell, destroy all permanents on the field.
For each color of mana used to cast this spell, all permanents, activate the following effects:
W: All players gain 1 Life for every mana of a different color used to cast this spell.
G: All creatures gain +0/+1 for every mana of a different color used to cast this spell.
R: All creatures gain +1/+0 for every mana of a different color used to cast this spell.
B: Each player may summon from their graveyards 1 creature whose converted mana cost is equal to or less than the amount of mana used to cast this spell.
U: All players draw 1 card for every mana of a different color used to cast this spell.

Explanation: Whoo, trying to figure out a way to represent Jace's new ability to link other minds into each other through his own and make the card potentially useful was a minor trick. The cost was done on purpose so that any deck could use this, though what would happen depends on the deck. A deck that could produce all 5 colors of mana would get the most out of this. Black's effect was worded differently from the others to force the player to think twice about what they want, does the player want a huge creature for up to 8 colorless mana and 1 colored mana of choice or do they want some of the other effects of the card? And yes, I realize the image was not my best, I was drawing a blank on who to have depicted on the other side of that damned table. There actually should have been one being from each guild at least. IF there had been room for flavor text, there would have been an exchange between Jace and Neos about how Jace was risking Firemadness again (That splotch of red was a small part of Niv-Mizzet's nose) and that Neos needed to zip it so Jace can do what he has to, hehe.

ShiftedFormJaceBeleren_zpsee210540.png

Effect Text: Reach, Defender, Changeling
If you control a Neos Planeswalker or a creature named “Neos Rivetter”, reduce the casting cost of this card by 3 and return those cards to your deck when you summon this creature. If summoned by this effect, Shifted Form - Jace Beleren gains Haste.
UU: Look at the top 5 cards of your opponent’s deck and put them on top of the deck in any order.

Explanation: Being a Ditto, Neos is capable of transforming into those around him as needed. One of his more-frequent forms, however, is Jace's, which led to the discovery of at least the mind mage's telepathy being on a genetic level, though Neos isn't capable of using some of his more-powerful mental magics in this form. Also, if you look really carefully at the image, you can see that the eyes are still Neos' neon-green instead of Jace's blue ones.

StormsPrecursor_zpsd64200e6.png

Effect Text: If control both a Jace Planeswalker and a creature named “Shifted Form - Jace Beleren”, you may cast this spell without paying its mana cost.
Deal 5 damage to all creatures and Planeswalkers your opponent controls. Red creatures and Planeswalkers destroyed by this spell are exiled from play.

Explanation: Of of many 'tag-team' spells, this one being between Jace and Neos in the mind mage's form. One of this pair's combinations is known by Neos as the "Gangbang Hurricane". How this plays out is Neos would shift into Jace's form, then jump into battle while using the move Double Team (which summons illusionary doubles) before starting up the move Rain Dance. (Yes, feel free to picture the mind mage dancing for rain here.) Jace summons up additional illusions as well as the illusions of multiple hurricanes...while trying to keep from losing his focus on the idiot dancing in his stead. Neos anchors onto to the blue mana used to create the hurricane illusions from the now-falling rain with a splash of his own aura to make them frighteningly real. The combination allows the pair to summon way more storms than either one could summon on their own. As for the image and why the hell Jace seems to have a yellow glow around him, I envision the auras seen by Neos to be dependent on where a being is from. If you also look at him carefully, you can see slivers of blue in it as well, which is sourced from his Spark, whose color is determined from what magic is used by the 'walker.

RakdostheUnbound_zpsec4f558e.png

Effect Text: +1: Destroy one creature you control. Deal damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed creature’s Power.
-2: Destroy one Planeswalker on the field. Rakdos gains Loyalty equal to the destroyed Planeswalker’s remaining Loyalty.
-8: Until end of turn, Rakdos, the Unbound becomes a 8/8 Demon creature with Flying and Trample that’s still a planeswalker. Damage dealt to this creature is instead dealt to your opponent.

Explanation: Rakdos becoming a Planeswalker is actually a really-scary thought. By manipulating the Ditto's more...bestial desires...Rakdos not only learned about Planeswalkers in general from him, the demon absorbed enough energy from the Blind Eternities through Neos to create something to let him travel from realm to realm without too much penalty. The middle effect actually reflects the leeching effect Rakdos is pulling on him to accomplish this goal. Imagine the demon's great pleasure when he realized that, outside of Ravnica, the Guildpact in any form has no power over him.

ShiftedFormRakdostheDefiler_zps85cae152.

Effect Text: Flying, Trample, Changeling
If you control a Neos Planeswalker or a creature named “Neos Rivetter”, reduce the casting cost of this card by 3 and return those cards to your deck when you summon this creature. If summoned by this effect, Shifted Form - Rakdos the Defiler gains Haste.
Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player sacrifices half the Demon permanents he or she controls, rounded up.

Explanation: Before Rakdos can make the first jump out of Ravnica, Neos gets furious and decides to bring the fight to the demon by literally turning into one himself. Just like with the above Shifted Form card, this double has neon-green eyes instead of Rakdos' yellow ones.

AuraSphere_zps0d9f05c8.png

Effect Text: If you control either a Neos Planeswalker, a creature named “Neos Rivetter” or a creature with “Shifted Form” in its name, this spell gains Flash and you may cast this spell without paying its mana cost.
Pay 2 Life. Choose one effect: Prevent one permanent you control from being destroyed by all effects this turn OR destroy one permanent your opponent controls.

Explanation: I think at least one person did a 'what the?' on the Life Point cost in the spell. For Neos, his non-transforming abilities allow him to transform the energy within his own soul to varying effects. In this case, he can either turn a part of his soul into a shield for someone else OR use it as a projectile that never seems to miss. This means that if he uses too much at one sitting or uses a lot without giving himself a chance to rest, he can actually kill himself by literally shattering his soul. This form of 'magic' drives members of the Azorius guild nuts, because this ability isn't affected by their law magic. This means if he's the one that has to be apprehended for something, they actually have to break protocol to bring him in by actually knocking him out instead of going through the normal procedure.

SecondSoulfromBeyond_zps04defeaa.png

Effect Text: Enchant Neos Planeswalker, creature named “Neos Rivetter” or creature with “Shifted Form” in its name.
Enchanted permanent cannot be controlled by any player other than its owner.
1W: If attached to a Planeswalker, place a Loyalty counter on it. You may not use any of its effects this turn.
1R: If attached to a creature, place a +1/+1 counter on it. You may not attack with it this turn.

Explanation: During his time in the WarHammer 40k reality, Neos had been mistaken for a type of human known as a "psyker", a psychic human who draws their power from the demon-infested reality known to them as "The Warp". After a few years of being 'imprisoned', in a sense, by a group of 'legal' Psykers known as Astropaths, he was deemed fit to become one himself. During the Soulbinding ritual, where a piece of the most-powerful Psyker's soul was implanted into one's own, the devices that had kept Neos in control, which was a lot of nanobots, was burnt out of his system and the overflow of power knocked out everyone around him, allowing the Ditto a chance to escape. Unfortunately, he is currently the only known Astropath to escape the grasp of the Imperium of Man in that particular version of the Warhammer 40K universe. For those wondering what the hell an Astropath is, an Magic the Gathering equal to such would be a unique-type of telepath that's capable of psychically-communicating to other telepaths of the same type in other planes without breaking. Even Jace can't maintain a psychic connection between planes like that, and he's powerful in his own right.

I also have several cards that I made that still need to have images found/made for them. Posting them in spoilers below for the curious souls.

Spoiler

Critiques are always welcome to read, especially constructive ones.

like the cards and the amount of depth you put behind it neither read like a yugioh card and are very balanced and good to use. two complaints, if neos revetter is supposed to combo with jace why doesn't he have blue in its mana cost and two neos loyalty up ability should have a cost maybe 2(Hybrid W/G)U to trigger. otherwise its a bit to overpowered and the cost reflects the flavour of the card overall love the detail and favour by these cards if these are your first card designs consider me very impressed. Great work hope to see more.

In regards to Neos Rivetter's cost, it reflects his own power, which is sourced from both his natural-born abilities (reflected by green) and his wish to better the realm around him, wherever he may be (reflected by white). Since he is still techinically a beast and is prone for fits of frenzy, it would not be fitting to make him blue...even if his aura-related abilities are depicted with blue light. In order to use both him and (any) Jace in the same deck, you'd have to use a tri-color deck...which is actually intentional.

And regarding his Loyalty-increasing ability...it affects EVERY Planeswalker on the field, including your opponents', if they have one out, which turns it into a double-edge sword. So...let's say your opponent has a Jace of their own, specifically Jace the Mind Sculptor...yeah, you're speeding up how fast he can bust out that last effect on you. Same for any other Planeswalker with a nasty effect you DON'T want to be on the recieving end of.

I'm currently scheming more cards for this, including ones featuring the two children mentioned in the description...one of them ironically sharing Beleren's first name! XD

EDIT: And...both of the kids are up!

EDIT2: Added another card to this. Any chance this can get moved to the Player-created sets, since this is becoming more and more of one?

EDIT3: Yet another card to the mix. Soon I'll run out of ideas that directly tie into the this tale...that I can't even seem to figure out a way to start... ^^;

EDIT4: Added a new card again. I might toy around with the specific-Planeswalker mechanic outside of it being linked with only Jace in due time, it's an interesting idea to play with...

EDIT5: And some more cards are added. I originally wanted to try and make To See Eternity an instant-win of sorts, but I figured that would get me big-time bricked.

WOW, Just wow these cards are balanced fun AND interesting. You truly have a talent talim and this site is a great place to develop it, You are capable of some great cards these have really been fun to look at. I'm not a massive fan of the cartoon-y art but that's just me but everything else is great. To be honest these cards have done the site a service. You should also check out other peoples cards too, check out mine, sertar's and LSW's in the mega archive and feel free to send us some requests for the competition LSW and I are having with potential for sertar and aztegio to join. Either way keep making cards and it is also necessary to bump every now and again if your using edit to post cards.

For the images I make myself, there's no helping the cartoony feel. I'm admittedly not that much of a digital artist, despite the fact that I keep trying. If I could afford the artists needed for some of these pictures that I tried doing myself, I'd have already gotten them done. Though the one for Unity of Thought, if I ever manage to figure out who all would be in the picture, would cost me THE most money from most artists.

And also, what's this I see about a competition? Hm...would help if there were some active competitions around...

Still working on cards for this set. Just added "Shifted Form - Jace Beleren" to the bottom of the post for critiques and am trying to find images for some of the other cards I have...as well as a viable final effect for this Rakdos Planeswalker card as well...let's just say Jace was ready to plant his boot into Neos' ass literally for what sparked THAT...

If I seem to be ignoring something here on this page, forgive me but I'm low on time so I could only skim it speed reading style.

Alright, so I do see a few weird spots such as that Unchained Fury which is a little more over the top than most of the other cards believe it or not.

Anyway, I was considering mentioning the art looked a little weird, but then I realized you had either done the art yourself or you have fully credited every work used, so I applaud your efforts there either way.

As for the set as a whole, very nice precision. The cards are so complex and wonderful, I can barely complain about syntax errors- so good job!

Trust me, either as soon as I can afford better art or my own skills improve, I will be probably replacing the art on most of these cards. And I realized that the wording on Unchained Fury does look off, so I have corrected it, but just haven't uploaded the new version yet.

Unless you considered Unchained Fury over the top in another way, then my question would be 'how so'?

EDIT: Added a card called "Storm's Precursor", which includes a flavor text quote that's probably gonna make you wonder how the hell Jace can stand Neos at times.
