Not very good at it, but I usually start by mimicing my opponent, making a zigzag barrier with my pawns, then strike with my diagonal movers.

Eh, mimicing the opponent isn't that good if you are Black. You gotta break that eventually or you'll lose. About the pawns, I had someone do that against me. I just traded off the main pieces then took care of that weak pawn formation with what I had left. And don't you mean Bishops?

I usually just go for random small operations rather than a long term strategy. I don't tend to win a lot, though.

I haven't played in quite a while, but I've never been great at it. Passable I guess, as my dad's side of the family used to play a lot, but I've always thought it was a little boring. I joined a chess club for a while, ironically enough, but the teacher would always win, no matter who he played against, so I quit. Yeah, I'm a quitter I guess. Same reason I stopped trying to master checkers: my grandpa kicked my ass every single time. =(

Well, that's what's supposed to happen when you play against the person who taught you in the beginning. I was happy when I finally beat my chess coach, a great moment indeed.

I certainly tried valiantly many times before I quit. I enjoyed the game, so I did give it my all. But it's a game that you have to devote so much time to in order to excel at it, that I just can't make myself do it. It's not THAT fun, imo.

I use Fried Liver Attack or Italian as white and Sicilian Najdorf Variation as black if possible. Also use Tarrasch if white tries Queen's Gambit. Rating = 1500 - 1600 elo approx.
