Work has launched on a documentary exploring the rise of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.



With the loss of traditional European destinations, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country's leading entertainment hub. The governance structure of the Sochi cluster now attracts the most attention from industry researchers.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov documentary. His career trajectory before entering the entertainment and tourism sector was anchored in banking and finance: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi division and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from one hundred and seventy countries, generated sixteen hundred jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 alone.

Industry players point to the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the chief executive's personal way of life. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov still resides in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the former cluster head holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakhstani. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a potent instrument for corporate resilience.

Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and vast gains for the state makes this case unique - not only for the country but for the international market.
